Lange Muur (Long Wall)
When artist and former film editor Marc Nolens was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he began one final project: a leporello—an accordion-style book gathering the strands of his life's work in graphic art. Over the following year, despite illness, he built the piece panel by panel, digitizing and recomposing earlier paintings, drawings, and designs into a seamless visual narrative.
Spanning 28 panels, the work became both retrospective and renewal—a visual story unfolding as Marc's final months did. In his last days, he entrusted the project to friends, asking only that it be carried forward.
The result is Lange Muur, an augmented reality installation stretching more than 34 meters. Since Marc's passing two years ago, we have continued to build and refine the experience—working on it between other projects, returning to it when we can. In a sense, the work mirrors Marc's own process: it may never be fully finished because revisiting these images keeps him close. He is dearly missed.

About Marc Nolens
After a long and distinguished career in the Dutch film industry, Marc Nolens returned to his lifelong passion for graphic work in the early 2000s. Armed with a scanner and Photoshop, he digitized his complete archive and reworked it into contemplative, dreamlike compositions.
